Age and attraction...

Is there any connection between age and attraction?

When I was a teenager, I was only attracted to boys my own age. I would never find a man over 20 attractive! (I guess I would not bother to look at him long enough to find out! )

Now I am 46 and even but I am not looking for men, I can still find men attractive in films etc. But those are usully about the same age as I am (e.g. Pierce Brosnan, Kevin Costner). I usually don't notice if men young enough to be my sons, are attractive or not. Is that strange? On the other hand, there are always exceptions. Sean Connery may be 78 or something (not exactly my own age), but he is still attractive!

Then I think about all these personal ads where so often elderly men are seaking for younger women... OK, I can see the logic if a man wants to have children, but the question is how many thirty year old women are interested in a relationship with a man twice their age? (Well, I am sure there are those as well ) Just think about so many more women they would have to choose among, if they would expand their search?

But maybe it is true, what I have read somewhere, that no one is attracted to women my age or older? Is that why so many men want younger women? Or is this only something made up by magazines?

It would be nice to claim that age does not matter, but is that really true? What do you think?

Over the years I've had relationships with women both younger and older than me. The extremes of these were women 11 years older and 8 years younger.

As for being attracted to women of middle age and above, for me the criteria is the same as for younger women. Physical beauty is skin deep - real beauty comes from within.

A lot of men always look for women considerably younger than themselves to massage their ego...

  Do you think men need to boost their egos more than women, considering it seems to be more common with couples were the man is older than the woman, than the other way around?

    I think some men do and some women too... though they tend to be the ones with fame and fortune who can afford to 'buy' some young stud or other.

I'm not sure it was age that attracted Catherine Zeta Jones to the multi-millionaire Michael Douglas......

I think age matters but it's not decisive.

I've twice been out with older women.

One mid forties. The other late thirties.

Eva Longoria .. Catherine Zeta Jones .. Helena Bonham Carter ...

When they ask me out - I won't say no ... x

There is no regulation. When it strikes it strikes regardless of age difference.

  If everyone is given a chance, yes. But if people are too set in finding a young partner, they might miss out on those who seem to old.

Kevin, Tom Cruise, etc are really untouchable.... between age and attraction there is intelligence, politeness, kindness, not a perfect person... the other half of the orange....

    Age is a matter of time and brain. There are teens who seems eldery and elderies who seems young! It depends on the feelings.

Of my four closest friends two are married to men within months of their own age, one to a man twenty years her senior, and one is with (but not actually married to) a man ten years her junior. All seem very happy and content, and have children by that man.

'Rebecca' is playing on television as I write, and I remain very attracted to Laurence Olivier as he was fifteen years before I was born, and I can find equally attractive men who were mere babes in arms when I was leaving school - it's a type rather than an age.

Like with most things in life we are all different and have different views and tastes and find different things attractive which is a great think as the world would be so boring if we all liked the same things.

Age has no barring on attraction really as its all down to what we each find attractive in the opposite sex etc.

Lots of aging men do look for younger women to boost their failing ego's or to try and hang on to their youth or something but at the same time more and more women are doing exactly the same so who is right and who is wrong ??

i have noticed a trend for younger girls to take up with older guys..at work all the girls on my team are going out or married to guys 20 years older..i have a feeling it has something to do with financial security!!...when i was single and mid 30's i had a girlfriend that was 21...no other reason that she looked great and was young and it boasted my ego!!...it was ok but i found her company boring once we had got over the initial newness...we parted on good terms.

at the end of the day i have been attracted to women because of their looks but i have found that a bad personality makes a good looking woman become ugly and un atractive and a plain ...even physically unatractive woman become beautiful because of her kind and loving nature...right lisa i'm of to work..nore nights!!

I dont think it does matter Jen is 4 years younger than me thats why she calls me an old man but I think love is love at the end of the day and as long as it is real then why question it? I know that some of my friends had girlfriends and boyfriends alot older than them in fact one of my friends sister married a 49 year old as soon as she left school. I think attraction is different to love it is a different feeling

    true although Jen does call me old all the time the cheeky young whippersnapper But like you said it wouldnt have mattered as soon as I saw Jen I knew it was for good and that she was my one true love and complete soulmate

Hard to say something about it. My woman is in my age and what can I say. We are together a lot of time, we looking at us and see running time.
It doesn't mean that I don't like watching younger girls. But I've seen many people younger and less attracive. I've seen also meny people older and more attractive. Age doesn't matter I think...

When I was twenty four years old I was dating an eighteen year old girl. We saw life through much different eyes. She was quite frustrated when I kept answering the call to work; she felt there should be more play time.

At work, I find many of the women who are close to my age are far more attractive, in many respects, than their younger counter-parts. They are comfortable with who they are and not into the "always me" philosophy. Our conversations just seem to be more varied and on a deeper level.

Age is nothing. You don't fall in love with a person's skin, but with their brain. Only very shallow people would dispute this.

      No I don't think so. But I think that we sometimes don't really give people a chance as we are too set in our minds on how old they should be.
      
      Like I said, those personal ads for example, where usually people are looking for partners their own age or younger. Maybe they miss out on their potential true love because she or he was fifteen years "too old"?
      
      And I was also curious to find out if attraction follows age. It is not only about finding a partner, but about who you find attractive generally speaking.
      
      Do we broaden our criteria the older we get? I can only speak for myself and when I was young, I would never see a 70 year old man and think wow he looks attractive. But how will I think when I am in that age myself? Or have we stopped looking at people when we get "that old"?
      
      This was difficult to explain in English. I take it you don't speak Swedish??
