I read a post in madtrucker's blog yesterday, about the hard working conditions for truck drivers, and it made me think about this wonderful thing called work, that seems to take a too big part in many people's lives.
Most of us do not have a choice. We need the money to get around, and with the high unemployment, we are happy to have a job to go to. But to what cost? Too many people get sick because of the hard working conditions with the staff being cut down and the workload getting too heavy.
But what can we do about it really? I heard about a couple, that both had well-paid jobs and secure finances but they wanted to get out of the "rat race". They moved to Thailand with their children, where they could live in a slower pace and get more out of life. OK, I am not saying that we should all move to Thailand to get a more relaxing life, but it sounds tempting in a way...
I am sometimes complaining about my part-time job and wishing that I could work (and earn) some more. But at least I don't have to get up at three in the morning, then work for 12 - 13 hours, have dinner and throw myself into bed to be able to get up at three the next morning...
My life may not be very interesting, but at least I have a life outside work and that is something to be happy about indeed!
Off to clean the windows now!

Yes, it is important that we work to live and not unwisely live to work.
If I was to go back to my profession I would make an earnest efort to spend as much time away from my work as I used to spend on the job.
Too late I realized how easy it is to be too committal to one's work and not spend enough time away.
