I know that you *British are very fond of your non-metric system and want to stick to it. And yes, we would most certainly do the same if we were asked to move over to some new system. (The same as we did when we voted No to change our Swedish krona to Euro a few year ago). Still, everything would have been so much easier if you had used the metric system as we do.
What I lack with your system is not only that it is impossible to learn all those strange units, but it is not all logical or precise either, is it? I mean, talking about heigh for example (and please correct me if I am wrong here): A person being 157 cm would be 5 foot, 2 inches according to a conversion table, but 158 cm or 159 cm would still be 5'2" unless you use decimals (and I have never seen anyone use that) Ask a growing child how tall they are and you will find that every centimetre is important (or "every little helps" as Tesco would say
)
Another thing that is confusing is the way you pronounce something that is spelled "lbs"... [pounds]? Is that supposed to make sense?
A Swedish mile = 10 km = 10000 m = 100000 dm = 1000000 cm = 10000000 mm
An English mile = 1760 yd = 5280 ft = 63360 in...
How can you keep all those figures in your head?
And to make all your units even more confusing, a British gallon or ounce is not always as much as an American, is it?
Well, forget about your funny units, and tell me, how tall are you really? (And I am talking cm now!)
*I don't know what system the rest of you on here use.

Feet and inches, pounds and ounces, and can't for the life of me convert...I know it's supposed to be easier but believe me, when you've had your measurement pounded into your brain from infancy swapping to another system is really difficult...try as I might, I just can't make the swap...big hugs...XX
