  • Have a guess...

I am sure this is familiar to all of you. But what is it? Will you please have a guess and I will give you the right answer in a couple of days?  :)

  • Happiness...

I have been reading through my blog and found something I wrote almost a year ago. I will say good night with these words to remind us all that happiness can be so many things, not necessarily big things...

Happiness can be a bit of milk left in the fridge after everyone else has had their breakfast...

Happiness can be to watch a beautiful rainbow, with all its colours, after a heavy rain...

Happiness can be a blog comment when you thought no one would read...

Happiness can be to make it to the bus even but you overslept...

Happiness can be a smile from a stranger you meet in the doorway...

Happiness can be to wake up fully recovered from the stomach bug you had the day before...

Happiness can be to sleep between newly-washed sheets that have been drying outside..

Happiness can be to help a fly out from inside the window, and see it fly away to freedom...

And Happiness can be to see a beautiful sunrise before you go to bed...

  • True friendship...

A common subject in weekly magazines, are stories of true friendship. People that have been there for each other, in a way that people don't always are. One man I read about donated a kidney to his best friend, a woman helped her friend through a very hard time in life. Other stories have been about people helping each other in more daily situations.

Do you have a best friend? A friend that will be there for you no matter what? Most of us will probably answer our husband or wife, sister or brother, but I mean someone outside the family? Someone that will be there supporting you if your marriage fails or if you get big problems in your life and need someone there for you? Someone you can call in the middle of the night if you need to talk? Someone that will be able to put you before her/himself if needed? A friend that will care for you unconditionally? Does anyone have a friend like that?

And what kind of friend are you? We all like to think of ourselves as good persons, I am sure, but how far would we go to help someone? Are we that true friend that would deserve a place in those magazines?

This is one of my favourite songs and it has a beautiful text.
( it also blends in very well with my pink/purple layout, doesn't it?  :)) )

Take good care of each other and have a nice Saturday!

  • Summer salad...

Am I the only one finding it sometimes difficult to eat in summer when it is very hot? I made this salad for lunch a few days ago. It is very easy and refreshing on a hot day, especially if it is served cool.

I just mixed shrimps, water melon, cucumber, leek and physillis and put it all in the freezer for 20 minutes before serving!

The sun is out, so hopefully it will be another nice day here!

  • Rain and sun...

We have had a variable weather (or "every-second-day-weather" as we would say here)  lately. That means that it has been raining one day, to be followed by sunshine the next and then back to rain again the day after...  I have probably told you hundreds of times, that I don't mind rain. But I have to admit I love some sunshine as well! I am easy to please!

It is difficult to sleep when it is so bright outside. But I am not complaining, as it will get dark soon enough (exactly 6 months to Christmas today!  :)) )  and I also feel that I don't need so much sleep in the summer season. Even at weekends, when I can have a lie in, I get up very early and enjoy a few hours to myself before the house wakes up.

I will wait and see if the sun decides to come out, before I make any plans for the day.

  • Tourist season...

At this time of year, we have many tourists coming here, the majority are coming by car/caravan or motor home from within Scandinavia. But we have also tourists coming from the rest of Europe, and by boat, we have had people all the way from New Zealand and Australia, I believe.

It is quite fascinating with  the mix of people and all different languages being used. The other day I met two German women, who had got a flat tire and needed help. They talked English but with a very strong German accent which made it very difficult for me to understand what they were saying. (We don't always notice our own accent but we do notice other people's! I am sure you would all have a good laugh at me if you heard me talk English. :)) )

Last summer there was a luxery cruise-ship with mainly American tourists visiting town.  Activities, shopping and guided trips were arranged for these people and the inhabitants were expected to stand on the quey (behind a high fence), waving with flags or whatever to greet them (I was not there but I read about it in the paper afterwards, it was all very silly in my opinion!). Very few of the people on board bothered to go ashore though and the expected invasion of eager buyers did not happen...

I believe we have another ship coming this summer or next. I don't like that kind of publicity stunts. All tourists are most welcome but please don't ask me to butter for "dollartourists".  :))

I was thinking about something I have read about in the paper, people from all over the world swapping homes for a couple of weeks. The idea is tempting!  It would mean a great opportunity to see other places without the high costs of hotel and eating out. But can you trust people you don't know? What if they ruin your house or something??

I have also heard about something called "couchsurfing".  Another interesting idea, but maybe more "youth-oriented"?  :))

Anyway, the sun is out and so will I be in a minute! See you later!

  • Thanks BCUK...

I just love the new blog design wizard!   I can even manage my friends list now and keep them all visible so they are easy to reach! Perfect! (they are automatically sorted after number of comments, if you wonder about the particular order)  Thanks BCUK!

  • 4444...

I just noticed that I have had 4444 profile views! Does that mean that 4444 different people have viewed my profile or does it mean that the same 4 people have viewed it 1111 times each??  :))

  • Age and attraction...

Is there any connection between age and attraction?

When I was a teenager, I was only attracted to boys my own age. I would never find a man over 20 attractive!  (I guess I would not bother to look at him long enough to find out!  :)) )

Now I am 46 and even but I am not looking for men, I can still find men attractive in films etc. But those are usully about the same age as I am (e.g. Pierce Brosnan, Kevin Costner). I usually don't notice if men young enough to be my sons, are attractive or not. Is that strange? On the other hand, there are always exceptions. Sean Connery may be 78 or something (not exactly my own age), but he is still attractive!

Then I think about all these personal ads where so often elderly men are seaking for younger women... OK, I can see the logic if a man wants to have children, but the question is how many thirty year old women are interested in a relationship with a man twice their age? (Well, I am sure there are those as well  :) ) Just think about so many more women they would have to choose among, if they would expand their search?

But maybe it is true, what I have read somewhere,  that no one is attracted to women my age or older?   Is that why so many men want younger women? Or is this only something made up by magazines?

It would be nice to claim that age does not matter, but is that really true? What do you think?

  • Weekend...

It is Friday again! I wish time would not fly so fast at this time of year! Not that I mind weekends, but a few more weekends and then it will be autumn again!  I know, I am being pessimistic now!  I will say no more!!

The sun has been out today. We have also had some rain. A typical English weather, you might say!

I have just given my husband a lift to a party with his friends. My eldest son is with his girlfriend and my daughter is on holiday. That leaves me and my youngest son at home. And the cats! I must not forget them!

I have no plans for the night except for watching a bit of TV maybe.  It will be interesting to find out if they are showing anything else than football, now that I have the remote control all to myself!   In fact, I think I read somewhere about a film with Meg Ryan... "French kiss"... It sounds like a chick flick. That will do!

Have a nice Friday night!

  • Finally...

It has taken me some attempts but I managed to buy myself a new pair of sneakers in the end!

    new shoes

  • Rain...

It is raining today!  :)  And I don't mind at all! We have had such a lovely spring and we really need some rain!

I have tucked myself in under a blanket with both the cats keeping me company, and it is very cosy to hear the rain pouring down outside the window. I am also very tired so I need this day to catch up with resting.

I took my mum to the hospital and my son to the dentist this morning. I also helped a guy who could not get his car started. That is all I have achieved so far today. I am going into town with my daughter later. Maybe I will have another try looking for sneakers! (mind you, "wellies" would be more suitable today!  :)) )

  • another boring post...

I woke up early once again, and started the day with a nice walk in the morning sunshine.

    morning walk
    morning walk 2

The temperature seems to be going down a bit... Today, it was only around 18 degrees. A good day for shopping, I thought, so I went into town to try to find a new bikini and a pair of sneakers. My old ones have seen their best days, but I am amazed that they have lasted for four years and I wear them almost daily (talking about the sneakers now, not the bikini!  :)) )!

    sneakers

Anyway, I am no good at shopping and usually come home empty-handed and so I did this time too! I did not find any nice bikini that fit my body (I guess it is not the bikinis fault really, it is my body that does not fit the bikinis  ) and when I finally settled for a pair of sneakers, I found out that they cost almost twice as much as I thought so I put them back. With new shoe laces, I am sure my old ones will work another season!

    sneakers 2

We had grilled meat and a home made potato sallad for dinner. It tasted very good!

The flowers and bushes in the garden are coming out nicely. By the way, does anyone know what these flowers are called? They grew in the garden when we bought the house over twenty years ago, and they still come every spring. I am very fond of the bright blue colour.

Well, I don't have much else to say tonight so this will be all for now.

  • Warm and sunny...

Yesterday was very hot! The thermometer showed 32 degrees in the shade! Today was more moderate, about 23 degrees.

The 6th of June is a public holiday in Sweden as it is our National Day.  I started the day with a long nice walk in the woods.

Later we went for a ride in the car and had a picnic by the sea. We stopped by a lake on our way home and had the first bath for the season. It was very nice, although a little cold in the beginning.

I have had a busy week and have some sleep to catch up with so I will do that now. Good night!

  • Sunday...

I can't believe this is actually happening!! For every time I have wanted to post a picture to my blog, I have had to delete one of my older ones... And now, suddenly, I realize that I have got unlimited (well, it feels that way even but there is still a limit) space and don't have to do any more deleting for a while!

Thanks BCUK for letting me post pictures again!  :)

I won't stay on here as it is the most beautiful morning and I just have to go out! Breakfast in the garden will be a good start of the day!

Enjoy the Sunday, all of you!

*Looking forward to post some new pictures soon*

  • Picture of today...

I have hundreds and hundreds of these flowers (you might call them "Poppy"?) in my flower bed. They look really nice, don't they?

  • ESC...

I am sorry I have not been very active lately, neither blogging myself nor commenting your blogs. I have simply been busy with things outside the Internet (I think they call it " the real world" :)) )

Anyway, I have just got home from work and have a few minutes before I need to start with dinner so I will write a few lines.

I have read a few blogs about the Eurovision Song Contest and  thought I would give my thoughts on it. I have to confess that I find it quite entertaining, even but I don't really care about who wins. I mean, of course we all hope that our own country will do well, but who cares in the end?? This is just a silly contest. It's not about the songs anyway.  :)

But I enjoyed the show and all the outfits. Some songs were really nice (and some were rubbish...)

The most interesting part with the voting, was when the young Swedish stand up comedian gave our votes in his own special way... :)) (I read in the paper, that half of the population thought he was funny and the other half was feeling ashamed... - I agree on both!  )

Other things the papers are writing about is how it could go so wrong?? :??:  Everyone had such high expectations and then this happened!  Don't we ever learn? It is the same every year... all the "surveys" point to victory but in the end, all we get is a few votes from our neighbours!  :))

Well, it is just a game after all, and it will soon be forgotten... :)) Especially now when the European Championship in football is starting!  (I am fed up with it already...) No funny costumes, no exciting voting or anything... Just a bunch of muddy, sweaty men chasing a ball...

  • Sponge-cake buns...

My mum used to make these when we got unexpected guests and had nothing to treat them with.  It can be a bit messy in the beginning and the batter will surely float out in the frying pan, so you will have to devide the buns from each other while frying.  But practise makes perfect and they are really nice if you eat them at once!

    This is what you need:

    2 eggs
    2 dl granulated sugar
    2 dl milk
    1,5 tsp baking powder
    3,5 dl flour

Beat eggs and sugar well. Add the rest of the ingredients.
Grease a frying pan and pour the mixture into the pan in small portions about 6 or 7 at the same time.
Cook on medium heat and separate the cakes in the beginning to prevent them floating together.

    bullar3

Turn them over when they have some colour on the bottom and cook on the other side.

Sprinkle sugar on them and serve warm.

  • Amazing...

I got one of those e-mails again! From people wanting to give away their fortune!

Isn't it fantastic that there are strangers out there, whose only wish is to give me all their savings without any strings attatched?   I am very fortunate indeed!  All I have to do now is to give out my e-mail address and bank account number and I will soon recieve 9,5 million US dollars!

So now that I will soon be a very wealthy woman, I will of course share some with you! Just tell me what you want and I will see what I can do!  :))  When thinking of it, wouldn't it be great to invite you all here, for a week at the beautiful High Coast?   This is really the most beautiful place in the summer, with all the steep mountains and deep valleys and an archipelago with many small islands.

And as I am beginning to sound like a tourist guide once again, let me as well remind you of the Right of Public Access. This is something we take for granted, but that is not the case in most countries, I believe. You don't have to own the land to be able to pick mushrooms or berries, you can hike across someone elses land, camp for a night or two or swim in any lake. You have certain obligations as well, such as not disturbe the wild life in any way or damage anything - And you can't camp in someone's garden!  (It's OK in mine though if you really want to, but being wealthy I will of course book you some hotel rooms!  :)) )

Well, you had better start packing!  :))  Let me see, where is my bank account number...

  • Slow...

Sorry, but I can't be bothered about this tonight...  BCUK (or is it my Internet connection??) is terrible slow... It takes ages to load a page and it takes a huge effort only to answer the comments...

So I will leave this for tonight and just wish you all a nice evening, and a special greeting goes to Boredrich on his birthday!
